About us

The department of dentistry and maxillofacial surgery is headed by Dr. Chirag Desai. He is a renowned oral and maxillofacial surgeon. He has authored a number of articles in indexed journals. He has also presented various papers and posters at national conferences. He has conducted extensive research in the field of bone grafting and ridge augmentation. Dr. Chirag is a Nobel Biocare (US FDA approved) certified implantologist. His conservative approach and patient customized treatment protocol makes him a sought after implantologist by Indian and international patients.

a)Oral medicine and radiology – deals with clinical and radiographic examination and prescribing medicines for problems related to teeth, gums, jaws, facial muscles and other adjacent structures.

b)Preventive and Pediatric dentistry – we provide specialized pediatric dental care for your little ones, with counselling and behaviour management. Fillings, extractions, root canal treatment, Habit breaking appliances, space maintainers, etc. are done.

c)Conservative dentistry and endodontics – deals with filling and restoring damaged teeth and root canal treatment. We use the best in class tooth coloured fillings to give you the original look and feel.

e)Oral and maxillofacial surgery - is the surgical speciality of dentistry that deals with diseases in teeth, gums, jaw and overlying structures. Treatment is provided not only for cysts and tumors in orofacial region, fractures of facial bones,infections in maxillofacial region,salivary gland disorders ,but also for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders,  correction of jaw position (orthognathic surgery) ,cleft lip and palate.

What is dentistry?

What is the structure of the tooth?
  • A normal adult mouth has 32 teeth, which (except for wisdom teeth) have erupted by about age 13
    Incisors (8 total): The middlemost four teeth on the upper and lower jawsCanines (4 total): The pointed teeth just outside the incisors.Premolars (8 total): Teeth between the canines and molars
  • A child is 3 years old, has a set of 20 deciduous teeth, 10 in the lower and 10 in the upper jaw. Each jaw has four incisors, two canines, and four molars.
  1. The crown of a tooth is that part of the tooth which is covered with enamel and this is the part usually visible in the mouth.
  2. The root is the part embedded in the jaw. It anchors the tooth in its bony socket and is normally not visible
  3. Enamel: The hard outer layer of the crown. Enamel is the hardest substance in the body.
  4. Dentin: Not as hard as enamel, forms the bulk of the tooth and can be sensitive if the protection of the enamel is lost.
  5. Pulp Soft tissue containing the blood and nerve supply to the tooth. The pulp extends from the crown to the tip of the root.
  6. Cementum: The layer of bone-like tissue covering the root. It is not as hard as enamel.
